MRI SeedNet™ System
MRI SeedNet™ System
with MRI Imaging guidance and temperature monitoring
Galil Medical leads the market with
a unique system that combines the precision of
cryotherapy with the vision of MRI for minimally
invasive procedures. The synthesis of these powerful
technologies ensures optimal safety, accuracy
and control of image-guided
cryoablation procedures. In recent years,
image-guided ablation is increasingly being performed
by interventional radiologists (IR).
The MRI
SeedNet™ System destroys target tissue by
cryosurgery, the application of extremely cold
temperatures, for the treatment
of prostate cancer, kidney
tumors, liver
metastases, and soft tissue tumors. The Galil
Medical freezing technology and 17-gauge
needle design provide a high level of precision
for physicians to perform minimally invasive surgery,
while patients can return to normal activities
quickly for enhanced quality of life.
The MRI SeedNet™ is a stand-alone system, compatible with all MRI systems (closed or open bore) up to 1.5T. Integration into existing MRI rooms requires simple installation and minimal downtime. The versatile SeedNet™ MRI mobile unit is placed within the MRI room, allowing the Interventional Radiologist, or other physician access to both the patient and the needles during the cryoablation treatment. The standard SeedNet™ system is compatibility with ultrasound and CT for other image-guided treatments.
In MRI guided surgery, integration with MRI enables accurate guidance of the needles directly to the tumor. The multiplanar imaging depicts the precise position of the needles and near real-time imaging of the entire procedure. During cryosurgery, MRI provides clear visualization of the iceball to ensure complete ablation, and monitoring of the iceball propagation and coverage for a high level of procedure control. Imaging guidance combined with real-time temperature monitoring allows treatment close to susceptible organs for controllable impact.
The Freezing Process
The MRI SeedNet™ Cryoablation System uses compressed Argon gas through the Joule-Thomson effect to produce extremely low temperatures. The freeze and subsequent thaw occur at the tip of ultra-thin (1.47 mm diameter) cryosurgical needles, the exact positioning and configuration of which is determined by the physician. The system’s software controls the gas flow from the external gas source to the needle tips and the physician can immediately switch from the freezing to the thawing process. As the gas passes through the cryoablation needles, the tip of the needle is cooled, forming an iceball, which engulfs the tumor and destroys the tissue.
17-gauge Disposable Cryoablation Needles
A full range of small diameter MRI-compatible
cryoablation needles are available for different
applications. The needles are inserted using imaging
guidance such as ultrasound, CT or MRI, enabling
accurate needle placement and precise delivery
of the therapy to the tumor. System compatibility
with high resolution imaging enables a high level
of control for cryosurgery. The physician uses
a configuration of needles to sculpt a precise
freeze zone to match the shape and size of the
target tumor. 17-gauge
disposable cryoablation needles are inserted
percutaneously, and can be added, removed or repositioned
causing minimal trauma to surrounding tissue.
The MRI SeedNet™ system supports concurrent freezing of multiple cryogenic needles, enabling treatment of large volumes and simultaneous ablation of multiple tumors.
