CRYOABLATION
TECHNOLOGY
New Product Development
for Cryosurgery
Smallest diameter cryoablation needle available
Galil Medical is in the forefront of new product
development for cryosurgery (freezing) bringing
precision instruments to the hands of dedicated
and highly trained cryo specialists. Realizing
the patient benefit of percutaneous procedures,
Galil Medical’s patented 17-gauge
cryoablation needle technology has aided in
the realization of truly minimally invasive ablation
treatment.
Galil Medical developed patented 17-gauge
needle technology for use in a range of cryotherapy
treatments. Technological and manufacturing advances
have allowed this progressive decrease in needle
diameter to a size comparable to a biopsy needle.
In the trained physician’s hand, these ultra-thin cryoablation needles enable simple percutaneous (through the skin) insertion, while patients benefit from quick recovery in a minimally invasive procedure. The physician inserts the needle directly into the target tissue with minimal force, making the procedure much easier to perform as well as shortening the overall duration of the procedure.
For minimally invasive surgery for
prostate
cancer treatment, Galil Medical offers a unique
template, based on the familiar brachytherapy
template, for easy insertion according to defined
coordinates. For kidney
cancer treatment, clinical studies have shown
reduced potential damage to the kidney tissue
and a decreased risk of bleeding with this technology.
17-gauge Family
Galil Medical continuously strives to improve cryoablation procedure precision and control. Innovative small diameter needles have been shown to minimize the risk of damage to adjacent tissue during cryosurgical ablation.
• The IceSeed™ needle creates a small, round shaped iceball for targeting small tumors. When multiple needles are used in predetermined configurations, ablation can be performed on larger tumors.
• The IceRod™ needle creates a large, oval shaped iceball for prostate cryotherapy treatment, as well as target tissue that requires a larger lethal freeze zone. Galil Medical, in conjuction with physicians performing cryo procedures, has developed a set of standard configurations for repeatable prostate procedures.
• The IceBulb™ needle creates a large, pear-shaped iceball for targeted treatment of large tumors.
i-Thaw™
The newly released i-Thaw™ cryoablation needles use low pressure Argon to thaw, eliminating the need for Helium tanks. Understanding that space and cost efficiency is a priority for surgical procedures, the Presice™ Cryoablation System supports a full range of needles in both Helium and i-Thaw™ for prostate cryoablation and kidney cryoablation procedures.
Lethal iceballs
The smallest diameter cryoablation needle on the
market, 17-gauge
cryoablation needles bring a new level of
precision to cryotherapy treatments for prostate
and renal cancer, liver metastasis, and other
tumors. Each needle has been designed to create
a defined iceball size and shape to match a specific
clinical application and allowing the flexibility
to sculpt ice coverage of organs or tumors of
various shapes.
Every iceball is comprised of an inner
lethal freeze zone and an outer zone with higher
temperatures. The temperature at the outer zone
does not cause damage to healthy tissue. Vigorous
laboratory testing is utilized to map the lethal
freeze zone as well as the outside iceball dimensions,
providing the physician with a precision tool
for cryotherapy ablation.
