PROSTATE
CANCER CRYOTHERAPY
Overview
Prostate Adenocarcinoma
and Cryosurgery/Cryosurgical Ablation
Treatment of the Prostate
A minimally invasive procedure and surgery,
Cryosurgical treatment for prostate cancer can
be used as an alternative to traditional treatment
options like radiation therapy. Read on to learn
about adenocarcinoma,
the most common form of prostate cancer.
There are multiple types of cancer,
the form that most individuals who receive a prostate
cancer diagnosis is adenocarcinoma,
meaning that the cancer is occurring in the cells
lining the glandular organ of the prostate, the
area responsible for the secretion of chemicals
that make up a large portion of seminal fluid.
The peripheral zone of the prostate, where two
thirds of the glandular tissue is located, is
typically where prostatic adenocarcinoma will
originate. Depending upon the severity and aggressive
nature of the cancer, cryosurgery
(freezing), also known as cryotherapy
ablation of the prostate, is a minimally invasive
procedure that is suitable for individuals experiencing
a prostate cancer reccurence or are newly diagnosed.
There are no obvious symptoms or signs
of prostate cancer in its beginning stages. When
undetected, adenocarcinoma can advance to the
capsule, seminal vesicles, lymph nodes, bone,
and spread to other organs. Typically, prostatic
adenocarcinoma is a slow growing form of cancer,
and when found early there is a good chance of
achieving prostate cancer cures; one of which
is cryosurgery treatments for the prostate. Utilizing
cryoablation
surgery technology, cancerous tissue is destroyed
by the insertion of cryotherapy needles into the
malignant glandular tissue. Through repeated freeze
and thaw cycles, the tissue is destroyed, eradicating
the cancer. When examining the success rate of
cryosurgery for prostate cancer, clinical studies
have shown successful results as a primary and
salvage prostate cancer treatment.
Are You a Prostate Cryoablation Candidate?
• Patients with localized prostate cancer
• Prefer short recovery time and minimally invasive surgery
• Patients with a prostate cancer recurrence after radiation treatment
Prostate and Cancer: Protect Yourself with Diagnostic
Tests
Treatments for prostate cancer, like
cryosurgery, are more effective when caught early.
That is why yearly examinations are crucial. Through
diagnostic tests such as digital rectal exams
(DRE) and prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood
testing, the malignancy can be identified early,
bettering patients chances of survival. As occurrences
of adenocarcinoma increase with age, it is recommended
that yearly testing commence at age fifty. Physicians
can detect an abnormality of the prostate by feeling
for hard, coarse, jagged, or uneven areas, indicating
disease and possible cancer. Likewise, elevated
and rapidly rising PSA levels can indicate a cancerous
tumor, as cancerous cells release these glandular
specific antigens into the blood stream.
