17-Gauge Disposable Cryoablation Needles

Galil Medical is the only cryotherapy company to offer ultra-thin 17-gauge cryoablation needles, paving the way for the company to become the market leader in truly minimally invasive cryotherapy.

This technological innovation was a collaborative process led by the real-world experiences of physicians and resulting in a design that allows percutaneous, or directly through the skin, procedures with no incision and minimal trauma to patients. Easy, percutaneous insertion also allows the flexibility to simultaneously ablate multiple tumors, or large lesions in a single minimally invasive procedure.

Innovation and Precision
Although cryoablation has been available since the 1960s, the first generation technology with large diameter probes and poorly controlled freezing limited its widespread acceptance. Small diameter needles enable percutaneous insertion and tight control of the freezing process. In addition, clinical studies show that small diameter cryoablation needles have significantly decreased complication rates previously associated with cryosurgery.

Features
Galil Medical's ultra-thin 17 gauge (1.47mm) cryoablation needles feature a sharp tip, eliminating the need for skin incisions. The physician can insert the needle through the skin, directly into the target tissue with minimal force and less trauma to the patient. This renders the procedure much easier to perform as well as dramatically shortening the procedure duration.

Joule-Thomson Effect
The Presice™ Cryoablation System, SeedNet™ System and MRI SeedNet™ use compressed Argon gas through the Joule-Thomson effect to produce extremely low temperatures. The systems’ software controls the gas flow from the external gas source, through the machine, to the tip of therapeutic 17-gauge disposable cryoablation needles. As the gas passes through the cryoablation needle, the tip is cooled, forming an iceball.

Precise Iceballs
Galil Medical 17-gauge cryoablation needles bring a new level of precision to cryotherapy treatments for prostate and renal cancer, liver metastasis, and other tumors. Each needle produces a defined iceball size and shape to match a specific clinical application.

Every iceball is comprised of an inner lethal freeze zone and an outer zone with higher temperatures. The temperature at the outer zone does not cause damage to healthy tissue during minimally invasive surgery. Laboratory testing and mapping of the lethal freeze zone as well as the outside iceball dimensions enables precise cryotherapy ablation.

Galil Medical continuously strives to improve cryoablation procedure precision and control. Innovative small diameter needles have been shown to minimize the risk of damage to adjacent tissue during cryosurgical ablation.
